This month’s evaluation features the most recent update to the Net Merit (NM$) formula since 2018, when Heifer Conception Rate, Cow Conception Rate, Cow Livability, and a Health Trait subindex were added. This time around, three traits have been added:
- Feed Saved (launched as an individual trait in December 2020)
- Heifer Livability (launched as an individual trait in December 2020)
- Early First Calving
Additionally, emphasis was adjusted on two traits. More emphasis has been given to both longer Productive Life (PL) and smaller Body Weight Composite (BWC).
For more details about the NM$ change and the traits added, read the article from the Council on Dairy Cattle Breeding (CDCB) CEO, João Dürr, “New Net Merit debuts this week.”
