The School of Agriculture at Lakeshore Technical College has been awarded $25,000 through Compeer Financial’s Agriculture and Rural Initiative. Funds are being used to purchase an additional calf and ultrasound simulator that provides students the opportunity to practice animal health care techniques in a safe environment. Funds will also be invested in a plant system, crop scanner, and materials for outreach and recruitment.

Lakeshore was one of 11 colleges in Wisconsin, Minnesota, and Illinois selected to receive the grants this year.

“The additional tools and equipment we are acquiring will allow us to bring agriculture excitement to more classrooms on campus and high schools,” said Lakeshore President Dr. Paul Carlsen. “We appreciate Compeer’s support of the need to recruit and train a knowledgeable workforce for our community’s agriculture industry.”

In 2021, Compeer committed $1.9 million to grants and scholarships for select colleges over the following five years with the goal of further developing agriculture’s workforce. Lakeshore also received two $1,250 scholarships to award to students enrolled in agriculture programs.
