The recent NFL draft in Green Bay, Wis., showcased rookie players and whetted fan appetites for the upcoming season, but the excitement wasn’t confined to Lambeau Field. Wisconsin Dairy helped win the day for GENYOUth, a national nonprofit that focuses on food insecurity. The organization themed its inaugural Taste of the Draft fundraiser around classic “supper club” fare to recreate the traditional experience at these unique Wisconsin institutions. Rounding out the relish trays, popovers, meat, seafood, and salad bar offerings were local cheeses and iconic ice cream drinks like Grasshoppers and Pink Squirrels. In addition to being treated to the supper club experience, guests of the Shreiber Foods-hosted fundraiser had the chance to meet some Green Bay Packer greats: LeRoy Butler, Jerry Kramer, James Lofton, Dave Robinson, and Ahman Green attended, among others. And foodies could have their own brushes with fame as renowned chefs Andrew Zimmern, Carla Hall, Mark Bucher, and Paul Bartolotta were the hosts of the event.
Proceeds from Taste of the Draft will go toward tackling food insecurity in Wisconsin — GENYOUth will offer grants to 90 schools, to be used toward healthy meals that include milk, yogurt, cheese, and more. To date, the organization has collaborated with Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin to award school nutrition grants to more than 500 schools in the state providing students with increased access to 35 million meals each year.
