While whole milk has been a rising star once again for fluid milk consumption, and shelf-stable protein shake drinks continue booming, there is one area of the drink market that remains virtually untapped for dairy — electrolyte sports drinks. A new product is working to change this: an ultrafiltered milk product called “GoodSport.” The company notes that carbohydrates are essential for sports drinks to be effective and found the balance in their product with glucose and galactose.
Of its naturally sourced electrolyte through milk, the GoodSport website notes, “When we set out to create a sports drink that would hydrate significantly better than the leading sports drinks, we searched for an ingredient that's naturally rich in electrolytes. Milk has a unique electrolyte profile that’s been proven to hydrate better than water and traditional sports drinks so we ultrafilter it to extract its broad spectrum of electrolytes, B vitamins, and carbs and remove the rest to create our clear, refreshing sports drink that delivers elite-level hydration.”
The company has teamed up with several professional athletes in their promotional efforts and invested in research to compare the ability of the product for rehydration. The researchers compared GoodSport to water, Gatorade, and BodyArmor, and found that GoodSport was more effective for rehydration due to its combination of sodium and potassium, which GoodSport extracts from milk.
“This is a big moment — not just for our brand, but for anyone who’s been looking for better hydration without compromise,” said GoodSport founder Michelle McBride. “Athletes shouldn't have to choose between clean ingredients and performance. At GoodSport, we deliver both.”
The product will be available for a limited time at all Costco locations in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Kansas, with additional product availability noted on the company website at goodsport.com.
