After the first day of World Dairy Expo, the 2013 Ayrshire champions have been determined.

With the assistance of associate judge, Keith Topp, Botkins, Ohio, Ayrshire judge Paul Trapp of Taylor, Wis., placed 241 animals in yesterday's show. As lead judge in the International Ayrshire show, Trapp praised the "outstanding cattle" and commented that he tried to follow the pattern of "straight-lined, balanced cows with fantastic udders."

He selected Sunny Acres TSB Silk owned by Gregory W. B. Evans, Georgetown, N.Y, as Grand Champion Ayrshire at World Dairy Expo yesterday afternoon. Silk garnered top placing in the Four-Year-Old Cow class and was named Senior Champion Female.

The Reserve Champion came from the Five-Year-Old Cow class, Melody-Lane Burdette Sally owned by Kaylyn Wood, Saranac, N.Y.

In the junior show, the same youth that topped the 2012 show reigned supreme again this year but with a different cow. Four-Hills Abush Sammy, owned by Britney and Bradley Hill, Bristol, Vt., was named Senior and Grand Champion Female of the Junior Show. Reserve Senior Champion of the Junior Show was Spring Vale Burdt Applefritter owned by Jeffery Hubbard Jr., Thurmont, Md.

State herd honors went went to the Iowa Ayrshire Breeders. The Premier Breeder award will go home with Daltondale Farms, Hartland, Wis. Old Bankston of Epworth, Iowa, was named Premier Exhibitor. Palmyra Tri-Star Burdette-ET was the Premier Sire.
