Hoard's Dairyman has been offering its summer editorial internship program for 23 years. Three of our current editors were editorial interns at Hoard's.

Eager, ambitious dairy students interested in writing are encouraged to apply for the Hoard's Dairyman summer editorial internship. The summer program showcases the writing talents of agricultural journalism and dairy science majors in The National Dairy Farm Magazine. Interested students need not major in journalism but show a strong interest in writing.
What does a Hoard's Dairyman editorial intern do?
• The World Dairy Expo Supplement–The intern works with the editorial team to gather articles, plan layout, edit copy, and approve graphic design for the magazine's extensive annual Expo supplement, which appears in the September 10th issue.

• The Farm Flash Page – Here is an opportunity that focuses on technical writing. The Farm Flash page gives our intern a chance to be a regular contributor in each issue. When writing the page, he or she will get a chance to review Journal of Dairy Science articles, as well as university press releases. As the intern, he or she is on the front line to hear about new and revolutionary research.

• Hoard's Dairyman Online – The intern contributes content through weekly HD Notebook blog posts and works with our social media campaigns. Interns with a special interest in the world wide web are encouraged to offer feedback while brainstorming ideas for new content.

• Articles, travel, and more – Get the feel of being a full-fledged editor. Interns will spend two to three weeks traveling to dairy farms across the U.S. Their goal will be writing farm stories, gathering Round Table leads, along with visiting, documenting the story of National Dairy Shrines' Student Recognition Winner, and writing the Top 50 Co-op list. Interns will also take photos to accompany their featured articles.

Listen to the 2011 Intern, Danielle Brown, about her summer experience.
Each intern's summer experience varies as their personal interests in the dairy industry shape their internship. So, if you are interested in our internship, apply before October 21, 2011, for the 2012 summer.
