Move over, bacon. Cheese wants to share the spotlight.

The widespread popularity and almost cult-like following of bacon makes it an easy choice for sprucing up common menu items at any restaurant, from fast food to fine dining. But rather than focusing on the bacon alone, Wendy's, the third largest fast-service burger chain in the world, is elevating the customer's taste experience by going a slightly different route and concentrating on the cheese.

Gouda and Gruyere are two cheeses not typically found on fast food, but that is exactly what Wendy's has added to two limited-time menu items. The Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger features smoked Gouda and warm Swiss Gruyere cheese sauce, while a new side, the Bacon Fondue Fries, are topped with the same Swiss Gruyere sauce.

This is not the first time Gouda has been served by Wendy's. They offered a smoked Gouda chicken sandwich in 2014.

To place emphasis on the cheese, the chain's marketing team specifically named the quarter-pound sandwich the Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger - not the Bacon Gouda Cheeseburger.

Promotional pieces for the new burger will also make cheese the star. There will be TV advertisements and a digital video that acts as a trailer for the fictional movie "Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger: A cheesy underdog story."

In the video, former football stars Terrell Owens and Vince Young play Gouda and Gruyere, two benchwarmers on a football team. One fateful game, Gouda and Gruyere finally get the opportunity to play alongside the star team member, Bacon. Like we in the dairy industry already know, the crowd soon discovers that great things happen when Bacon, Gouda and Gruyere work together and share the spotlight.

These advertisements and promotional pieces will debut today (November 30). You can also watch the full-length "Gouda Bacon Cheeseburger: A cheesy underdog story" video here or above.
