At World Dairy Expo 2016, PortaCheck won an Innovation Award for BHBCheck™, a beta hydroxybutyrate (BHB) blood ketone meter and test strip. This accurate and affordable ketone monitoring system has been available since December 2015 and has gained recognition as an accurate and useful tool for dairy producers monitoring transition cows and herd nutrition levels. With just one drop of blood and five seconds, producers can determine if a cow has subclinical ketosis.

“The BHBCheck meter is specifically calibrated for use with bovine blood and offers low cost, ease of use, and ready product availability that PortaCheck customers have come to expect,” said Mike Gavin, President of PortaCheck. “We became aware of the need for a reliable and accurate blood test for subclinical ketosis. After looking closely at the costs and technology involved, we decided to enter this market and provide a new tool for the dairy industry. We are pleased that the Dairy Herd Management panel of judges has recognized the value of this new product.”

PortaCheck has become an on-farm testing leader with a full product line that assists producers in making management decisions and improving animal health. The company also provides the UdderCheck™ sub-clinical mastitis test, the PortaBHB® milk ketone test and the PortaSCC®milk test.
