With any great event comes tradition and there are certain things that have become tradition during World Dairy Expo. Many regular visitors have their favorite eating establishments, of which the Prime Quarter is a perfect example. This cook-your-own steakhouse is one of the most popular restaurants in Madison during Expo. The regular dinner meals includes various steaks and fish, ranging from 9 ounces to 23 ounces per portion. And for those that are really hungry, a challenge is issued. Grill your own 40 ounces USDA choice top sirloin and you are eligible to participate in a contest. If you eat all your dinner in less than one hour and 15 minutes, including a trip to the salad bar, a baked potato and Texas toast, you become a member of their Beefeater's Club.

If successful, you'll receive one of these nifty medallions (see photo) commemorating your amazing feat. On your next visit, you can redeem your medallion for one regular Prime Quarter dinner. I previously witnessed one individual eat all 40 ounces, but last night TWO people, at the same table, accomplished the task. Cousins Mark and Gus Rupp of Ohio had king-sized appetites when they each consumed their steak, salad, toast and potato – winning the medallion was not quite enough. To top off the evening, they had cake with ice cream for dessert!
