If you see cows, writing, and America’s Dairyland in your future, consider applying for the Hoard’s Dairyman editorial internship for 2022.

September has provided some beautiful days this fall, the kind of days that let us hang on to summer a little bit longer. Soon, though, the weather will turn colder, signaling the change of another season.

While fall, winter, and spring are all special in their own way, many of us can’t help but daydream about the return of warm summer days. In both work and personal life, it seems we are always thinking ahead to the next season.

Even though the new school year has just started, many college students are already making plans for summer jobs and internships for next year. If you fall into that age demographic, do you know where you will be next summer?

If you are a student interested in dairy and writing, we encourage you to apply for our Hoard’s Dairyman editorial internship. It’s a perfect way to learn more about the dairy industry while building your journalism skills!

Our intern works at our office in Fort Atkinson, Wis., and is part of the day-to-day interactions with our editorial staff members who provide mentorship all summer long. The summer intern is an active part of our editorial team from day one on the job.

The internship includes writing opportunities for both our print and electronic publications. Our intern takes the lead on several important projects, too. The internship also provides a few opportunities to travel, representing our magazine at dairy meetings, breed conventions, and farm visits. These trips generate content for the magazine and give our intern a broader view of the dairy industry.

When the summer wraps up, our interns return to school with expanded writing skills, real-world experience, and some life lessons, too. It is always a little sad for us when the summer ends, but we look forward to watching these young adults complete their collegiate careers and venture into the working world.

If you want to learn more about our internship, please visit our website for details. Take a look at the video featuring Jessica Schmitt (pictured above), our 2021 intern who is currently a senior at Iowa State University.

The application due date for our 34th internship is quickly approaching. We encourage any students with a passion for writing and dairy to apply by Friday, October 22, 2021. Students should send a cover letter, résumé, grade transcript, and two written letters of recommendation from references to Abby Bauer, Senior Associate Editor, 28 Milwaukee Ave. West, Fort Atkinson, WI 53538.

If you have any questions, please contact us at (920) 563-5551 or abauer@hoards.com. Remember, all application materials are due by October 22, 2021. If you’re looking ahead to next summer, consider applying today!
