The team from Kaskaskia College in Illinois topped the International Post-Secondary Dairy Judging Contest at World Dairy Expo. Team members Jessica Telgmann, Brett Woker, Dylan Reed and Morgan Wendling scored 31 more points than the second-place team from Modesto Junior College.
The California team scored 2,212 points, nine points more than Ohio State University Ag Tech which finished in third with 2,203 points. SUNY Cobleskill Team #1 and Morrisville State College were the fourth and fifth place teams, respectively.
The winning individual hailed from the winning team. Jessica Telgmann was the high individual, with a score of 764. Vincent Migliazzo, Modesto Junior College, finished second with 753 points. Third place went to Hayleigh Geurink from Michigan State Ag Tech. Rounding out the top 10 were Sara Pulver, SUNY Cobleskill Team #1; Meghan Thurston, Ohio State University Ag Tech; Brett Woker, Kaskaskia College; Dylan Reed, Kaskaskia College; Justin Bopp, Modesto Junior College; Colleen Cargile, Morrisville State College; and Marshall Overholt, Ohio State University Ag Tech.Geurink, Michigan State Technical College, won the reasons portion of the contest with a score of 191 out of 200. Tony Garcia was second high reasons individual, and his team from Modesto Junior College was the high reasons team.
A practical skills contest was also held Sunday night, and the team from Modesto Junior College finished in first place. University of Wisconsin-Platteville came in second, and Kaskaskia College was third. Laura Bond from Ohio State University Ag Tech College was top individual.
This year marked the 25th anniversary of the Post-Secondary dairy judging contest at World Dairy Expo. What once was a completely separate contest from the 4-H and collegiate judging events, the Post-Secondary contest has grown and become a permanent fixture of World Dairy Expo.
