Last Friday afternoon, the speckled cow first stepped into the ring during the Six-Year-Old and Older Holstein class that included the Grand Champion from the last two Expos — and, in fact, the last two Expo Supreme Champions: herself and Oakfield Solomon Footloose-ET. At the close of the class, Shakira and Footloose stood first and second in the class, respectively, and earned raucous applause throughout the Coliseum.
Those two cows then went on to be named Senior and Reserve Senior Champion and, finally, Grand and Reserve Grand Champion of the International Holstein Show.
Two hours later, Shakira repeated her feat from 2021 when she earned the top award of the 2023 Expo dairy cattle show. She is owned by Ferme Jacobs, Antelimarck, Ty-D Holsteins, Theraulaz, and Attaboy Holsteins of Cap-Sante, Québec.
During the afternoon’s Supreme Champion ceremony, Reserve Supreme Champion honors went to the Grand Champion Jersey. That was Stoney Point Joel Bailey, exhibited by Vierra Dairy Farms of Hilmar, Calif.
Among the heifers of the Open Show, the Red and White reigned Supreme. Sco-Lo Dc Rogue2470-Red-ET is owned by Fly Higher, Elmlo, Andy and Whitney Reynolds, and Mackenzie Reynolds of Corfu, N.Y. Reserve Supreme went to the Holstein, Kingsway Caught a Vibe, owned by Kingsway Farms and Velthuis Farms of Hastings, Ontario.
In the Junior Show, both Supreme titles went to the Ayrshire representative. Toppglen Wishful Thinking-ET was the winning cow for Tanner, Brennan, Marissa, and Logan Topp of West Salem, Ohio. The top heifer was Grand-View Champ Dyna, owned by Jacob, Logan, and Madison Harbaugh of Marion, Wis.
Two Jerseys claimed Reserve honors. Reserve Supreme Champion in the Junior Show was Rolling Spring Premier Lucille owned by Evan Jauquet of Pulaski, Wis. Among the heifer contenders, Miss Gayles Grace-ET, owned by Kendall Thomas of North Lewisburg, Ohio, was Reserve.
The Supreme Champion ceremony marked the close of the 56th World Dairy Expo that saw warm temperatures throughout most of the week bring out large crowds for the dairy cattle shows, trade show, educational events, and competitions.
