Embarking on a new adventure is both exciting and terrifying. New people, new places, and new opportunities. Whether this is starting a dairy farm or purchasing a calf, these experiences can bring challenges and triumphs that shape us into the individuals we are today. For many students, summer internships allow them to learn and grow in the career field they desire. Most importantly, these internships create responsible individuals who are ready to tackle the agriculture industry upon graduation. This week I start my editorial internship at Hoard’s Dairyman!
Summer is the perfect time to go on an internship! With time off school and a period of three months of break, this a great chunk of time to pursue a new challenge. What a better way to spend your summer break traveling, learning, and working for a company.
The opportunity to network with others is optimal during internships. Students who have internships often attend a wide variety and number of events where industry professionals are present. Don’t be afraid to introduce yourself to either get your name out or ask for advice.
However you are spending your summer, be sure to make the best out of every situation and always look for the opportunity of self-development. Also, don’t forget to have fun!
Elise Regusci grew up on her family's farm in Modesto, Calif. Regusci attends Cal Poly University, majoring in dairy science with an agricultural communication minor. On campus, she is the Los Lecheros Dairy Club Ag Council representative and a member of the Cal Poly dairy judging team. Regusci is the current Brown Swiss Youth Ambassador and is the 2017 Hoard's Dairyman summer editorial intern.
