Judge Chris Lahmers of Marysville, Ohio, and his associate, Mike Maier of Stitzer, Wis., evaluated 262 animals in the International Milking Shorthorn Show this year, and Gin-Val Logic Lauretta-EXP was the last cow standing when the dust settled on Tuesday afternoon. Both the Open and Junior Shows were significantly larger than last year’s Milking Shorthorn Shows.
Lauretta, the winning Aged Cow, is owned by Cory and Kristen Salzl of Litchfield, Minn., and was first named Senior Champion. The Aged Cow class also produced the Reserve Senior and Reserve Grand Champion, Heavenly Zora-ET, owned by Dillon Freeman of Bremen, Ind.
Zora is no stranger to Milking Shorthorn enthusiasts as she earned Grand Champion honors at last year’s Junior Show. Of course, she repeated that feat again this year. Reserve Grand Champion of the Junior Show was also a familiar name, Lazy M Jk Lady In-Red-EXP owned by Aubree, Aidan, and Alaina Topp of Botkins, Ohio, last year’s Intermediate Champion. This year, she won the Four-Year-Old class and was Reserve Senior Champion.
In the Open Show, Intermediate Champion went to Henkeseen Petr Shots-EXP-ET, the winning Senior Three-Year-Old owned by Matt Henkes, Susan Lee, Michelle Upchurch, and Mike Gregory of Hebron, Ill. Reserve honors were again earned by the Salzles with their Junior Two-Year-Old, Pine-Star LM Jitterbug-EXP, owned with Jessica Salzl and Jason and Leah James.
Jadeyn, Alexa, Raela, and Walker Mueterthies of Lawler, Iowa, swept the young cow portion of the Junior Show. Their Junior Two-Year-Old who was second in the Open Show, Corstar Win Maisel-EXP, earned the Intermediate Champion banner, and their Senior Two-Year-Old, Lady M Bender Back-EXP, took home the Reserve Intermediate Champion title.
As Milking Shorthorn heifers paraded through the ring on Monday, Lazy M Money Laundering-ET-P, the winning Fall Calf owned by Triple S Genetics and Fairholm of Anamosa, Iowa, was named Junior Champion by Judge Lahmers. Reserve Junior Champion went to Corstar Mm Rasta-ET, a Summer Yearling owned by Riley Bohrer of Walkersville, Md.
Among the junior exhibitors, Cameron Ryan of Fond du Lac, Wis., earned Junior Champion honors with his Fall Calf leased from Peter Vail, Dc-KnH Rockstar Cuddles-ET. Reserve Junior Champion went to KnH Endres Legend Has It-ET, a Winter Calf owned by Steve Morris and Brooklynn Hollis of German Valley, Ill.
Hard Core Farm of New Enterprise, Pa., was named Premier Breeder of the show, while Peter Vail of Mile High in Valatie, N.Y., was Premier Exhibitor. Halpins Muddy Rockstar-TW was Premier Sire of the Heifer Show, and Premier Sire of the overall show was Innisfail Mega Lottery-ET.
