The article "Middle East hungry for dairy products" caught my eye because several years back I was involved in a dairy project in Lebanon.

They are serious about increasing their milk production, because Lebanon on a per capita basis was second only to France in dairy consumption. Yogurt and other fermented dairy products are probably the most common products, but cheeses of various kinds were also common.

The implications for the U.S. dairy industry are obvious, not just milk products but also heifers, semen, equipment and other inputs. At the time there was a major heifer importation being planned. It is an area that the U.S. dairy industry needs to look at very seriously.
