"Thanksgiving is a great holiday. It's a great holiday because it's centered around food," noted USDA Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack.
"We bring our families together from all parts of the country and we sit around the table and enjoy this incredible array of food. We enjoy family. We have this incredible sense of connection. In that sense, food is a unifying force," Secretary Vilsack explained to those dairy producers who were attending the joint annual meeting of the National Milk Producers Federation and Dairy Management Inc. late last month.
"But in today's America, for whatever reason, we seem to want to fight. Instead of food being a unifying opportunity, a place where we can create consensus and bring people together, there are some that want to divide us over this issue," explained Vilsack.
"I think we at least have to get to a place where food and agriculture is something that brings us together. I think food is a good place to find common ground," concluded Vilsack.
