We too have had contact with nonfarming consumers in Canada as discussed by the author of Reader Response: Bachelor extends our reach. My wife and I bought the 200-year-old stone house next door (our future retirement home). At the moment, we have been renting it out as a guesthouse. We serve no meals but the house is fully equipped.

People from all over Canada rent it and most also come over to our dairy for a tour. Our most memorable visit was a recently retired emergency room doctor from Wisconsin who had distant relatives from our area. We gave the barn tour and to my surprise he was most interested in our medicine inventory and how similar treating dairy cattle is to humans. You never know who and what impact you will make. These interactions are almost never wasted time; in fact, these experiences were very enriching.
